Massage
The connections between mind, body, and- for lack of a better word- consciousness are important to me and are evidenced in my bodywork.
We all live in the same complex, interconnected world where safe, compassionate, nurturing, therapeutic touch is in short supply. I endeavor to make each massage session feel like a refuge for every person that comes through my door!
A Licensed Massage Therapist (#21302) since 2012, I intuitively combine myofascial treatment work, structural integration, hot stones, trigger point protocol, fire cupping, gua-sha, acupressure, and craniosacral techniques.
I work from two basic premises: that the balancing of our muscles and fascia- anterior to posterior, and left to right- can get our bodies to some state of equipoise and balance in which we are actually comfortable; further, that when our nervous systems are regulated to some relative state of ease, our bodies themselves are remarkably adept at self-healing and regeneration.
I work strategically, structurally, fascia-ly, slowly. This is most likely not a fluffy massage, but it is nurturing: each session I will meet you where you are at; and each session I will meet your body where your body is at; and where the two are not already connected, attempt to connect the dots between you and your body, between your innate wellness and your body’s innate ability to be well.
We are not, not our bodies.
With an eye on the prize of effecting positive change, I will work with you at the speed and depth that you and your body can integrate- that your system can handle and hold.

The deep listening of craniosacral massage dovetails nicely with this, with my intention as a healer, and also with my meditation practice- I continue to study craniosacral massage with Regina Callahan, Still Mountain Healer:

It’s rare to come across an LMT as skilled and caring as Jay Wence. He has been expertly treating me for a few years, mainly for muscular dysfunction due to running and being at a computer all day. Jay is especially gifted in working on the issue(s) you have, while also gently encouraging you to think about (and maybe address) underlying factors and causes. It feels like Jay’s purpose in life is to help or give to others, which is appropriate because that’s exactly what he’s doing! Oh, and if you’re a talker, Jay has a most unique and refreshing perspective on life. As a massage therapist and outstanding human being, Jay has my highest recommendation.
